Crime Victims Center Expands Its Services with Second Location in Syosset
Syosset, NY (FreePR.org) -- On April 24, the Crime Victims Center (CVC), dba Parents for Megan’s Law, held a press conference to announce its new Nassau County location at 575 Underhill Boulevard, Suite 225 in Syosset. Laura Ahearn, Esq., LMSW, Executive Director/CEO, CVC, was joined by staff and board members, Nassau County leaders, local elected officials, local, state and federal law enforcement, labor union and construction trade representatives, public and private school administrators, community members, and supporters.
The Center’s new Nassau location comes after the closing of The Safe Center Long Island in March 2025. Following the unexpected closure of The Safe Center — the county’s sole rape crisis and domestic violence service provider — Nassau officials urgently sought a qualified agency to restore victim support services. With nearly 30 years of experience operating the Crime Victims Center (CVC) in Suffolk County, CVC stepped forward and immediately began the planning and infrastructure development required to expand its operations into Nassau and ensure continuity of care for victims.
CVC mobilized rapidly, leveraging its decades of experience, established protocols, and trauma‑informed infrastructure to ensure continuity of care. The agency initiated staffing plans, cross‑county coordination, hotline integration, hospital response coverage, and the development of Nassau‑specific service pathways. CVC’s leadership worked closely with county officials, hospitals, law enforcement, and community partners to stabilize the system and rebuild a comprehensive victim services network capable of meeting Nassau’s immediate and long‑term needs.
“The expansion reflects our mission to restore stability, safety, and dignity for survivors while strengthening the county’s overall response to crime,” Ms. Ahearn said. “By bringing our services directly into Nassau, we are building a stronger, more accessible network of support for victims and their families.”
“The opening of this center will ensure that Nassau residents in need will continue to get the services, care, and attention they deserve,” said Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman. “We are strengthening support for victims while continuing to keep Nassau the safest county in America.”
"After the closure of The Safe Center left a critical gap in Nassau County, we took decisive action to ensure survivors were not left without support,” said Governor Kathy Hochul. “Through record investments and strong partnerships with providers like the Crime Victims Center, New York State stepped up to restore and expand these essential services. I am proud that today, survivors and their families once again have access to the care, safety, and dignity they need and deserve."
